About Tom (Aviv) Emanuel
I’m a computational research lead who studies how people behave — and turns that behavior into models, experiments and decisions. Over 11+ years I’ve moved from controlled lab experiments to platform datasets with millions of users, in academia and in industry.
Today I work as a statistician and data scientist at micro1, where I was selected for quality-control responsibilities in evaluating frontier-model outputs, and I’m building Spark, a fully automated, LLM-based fitness-coaching app, with AI coding agents. Before that, I led retention analytics for a long-term consulting client — improving retention prediction by 23% on 10 years of product data — and ran computational research programs at McGill University and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
I hold a PhD in Experimental Psychology and Exercise Science from Tel Aviv University (2022). I’ve published 16 peer-reviewed papers (500+ citations), mentored 24 student researchers, and coached 13 learners into data and tech roles.
What I’m looking for: roles in data science and experimentation, AI research and evaluation, people insights, or academic research. Based in Montreal and open to remote roles worldwide.
Outside work: a decade as a certified personal trainer, a former competitive Taekwondo athlete, and black belts in Taekwondo and Krav Maga.
